What do you like the most about Roller Derby?

Honestly? The battle scars. I know it sounds crazy, but I love showing off a good derby bruise! It just means I had a really good practice or game. ^_^

Short Bio

I’m a massive Disney fan & an equally massive Sci-Fi fan. I’m quiet & reserved for the most part (yay introverts), but have a tendency to get super chatty & VERY goofy when I’m comfortable.

Favorite Food?

All of it? Yeah… all of it.

Favorite Song

Don’t have a favorite song, but my favorite music decade is the 90’s if that helps. Also, the Pitch Perfect soundtrack is my jam.

Likes

Considerate people, dogs, mint (the color, not the flavor), board games, sci-fi & superhero movies/shows, all things Disney.

Dislikes

Spiders, clowns, sitting still, cruel people, Comcast.

The community… and also being able to wreck people and get applauded for it.

Short Bio

I’m just a tall girl from Nebraska trying to make my way in this Southern world. I am currently working towards my Masters in Public Administration at UA. After that I hope to work abroad in some capacity. I may have RBF, but underneath that I’m really just a nerdy mushy mess who still rides on the backs of shopping carts.

Final Thoughts

Derby has been the best thing I have found in Tuscaloosa by far. I am so glad that I found this group of women, and men. Something had been missing from my life for quite some time, derby has filled that space.

What do you like the most about Roller Derby?

The skills and benefits of being part of a roller derby league.
Roller derby teaches people how to work together, how to help one another, how to be strategic, how to be healthier, how to be strong (in many ways), how to have fun. Roller derby is known for building confidence – notably in women. The camaraderie established by women within roller derby communities is the strongest I’ve ever witnessed.

Short Bio

I am a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama – growing up in a more rural area on the outskirts. My husband and I have a 17-year-old son in his senior year of high school and a 26-year-old son recently returning from China and residing in Louisville, Kentucky. We have three dogs, two cats, and both work at The University of Alabama.

I have an associates degree in graphic design and prepress communication, a Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, and Culture and I am currently a part of the Masters program in Interactive Technology at UA.

I work as a Project Administrator in the College of Continuing Studies. I manage projects spanning the entire college including at the Bryant Conference Center and Bryant Museum.

I am a founder and coach for Tuscaloosa’s one-and-only roller derby team, the Druid City Dames. I have been a part of the Board of Directors, sitting as the VP for the non-profit Druid City Derby, for over 3 years. I enjoy the company of these strong women and athletes.

While I lack a lot of spare time, I do enjoy cooking, singing, and relaxing with family and friends or simply on the couch with my favorite partner.

What do you like the most about Roller Derby?

I like challenging myself to learn knew skills every practice and love having a family that supports you all the way. I couldn’t pull off half this stuff without my team!!

Short Bio

A wandering geek growing up, I came to Tuscaloosa for college. Star trek, my true love, always put strong women in science and engineering fields. So I followed in their footsteps (in the name of science) and pursued my degrees in civil and environmental engineering. Afterwards, I stayed around and finally found my new home. I spend the non-working part of my days with my pup Kaia, reading science fiction novels and hanging with friends. And of course roller derby!
